This will be my first origin visit.

I mused once again why I chose to go to Ethiopia out of the many producing countries.

Being able to visit Ethiopia, the land where coffee originated, made me almost giddy with happiness.

After 9 years of actively trying to increase awareness of just how delicious coffee can be, I wonder how spending time in Ethiopia will change my personal values and my thoughts on working in this industry.

I hope that I can share this experience with other roasters from around the world, and of course, producers like Wete Ambela and Moplaco.

I was focusing on the essence of coffee and spending days trying to create more diverse and unique coffees when TYPICA gave me a chance to visit coffee origins in Tanzania and Kenya. The moment felt like all my efforts had paid off. I am fortunate.

I had been making small efforts to serve coffee that encapsulates its producer’s narrative to my customers. And when I learned what TYPICA is doing, I thought, “This is it!” And shortly afterwards, I purchased beans through TYPICA, though in small quantities. During this visit to Tanzania and Kenya, I felt the lively heartbeat of the producers, and learned about climate, soil, and processes. I want to put them directly into my coffee and serve it to my customers. I’d like to express my gratitude to TYPICA for giving me this major turning point that will help me serve better coffee. I’m very happy to have come even closer to the essence of coffee. I’d also like to thank all the roasters participating in TYPICA Lab.

A cup of coffee allowed me to experience the universe in my mouth.

The universe seeped into my subconscious, unbeknownst to me, and gradually began to nurture my curiosity.

That curiosity sprouted when I turned 50 years old.

My life experienced a Copernican Revolution of its own.

It felt as if I had spent a long time preparing for coffee.

Everything that made up who I am, from my hobbies, my talents, books I’ve read, things I’ve collected to my career and my family, seemed to be a well-crafted script for me to eventually be involved in coffee.

This is how my coffee life began, and it gave me the joy of being with coffee in the midst of hardship and perseverance. I’ve put all my energy and focus at all times without giving up.

Life started with a cup of coffee!

And the journey to follow the seed, or in other words, the origin, of coffee.

My earnest desire to create the perfect cup of coffee has led me here.

From Seed to Cup。

From the producer to the coffee lover.

My raison d’etre is to fulfill my duty and responsibility to convey the value and enjoyment of coffee.
